Jewish Federation Los Angeles invests in Jewish Queer Community

Jewish Federation LA logo

As someone who has spent many years working to advance the Jewish Queer Community in Los Angeles, I am beyond delighted to report that the Jewish Federation of Greater Los Angeles has put their money where their mouth is and directly invested in the advancement of this community. No doubt spearheaded by long-time ally Andrew Cushnir, JQ International (the fiscal sponsor of the 2wice Blessed Project) was allotted seed funding for their young adult programming work, specifically ear-marked to hire a new (and first ever!) Director of Development.

“We made a philosophic decision that Federation young adult programming was going to be more about Jewish engagement than about Federation engagement or Federation fundraising,” said Andrew Cushnir, executive vice president and chief program officer at Federation.

We want to publicly acknowledge the support, thank the powers-that-be, and encourage other federations and larger Jewish Institutions to the same. It’s not enough to put a rainbow on your flyer if you’re not willing to invest in the community that you want to show up and donate to your organization. This specific, dedicated, and exemplary approach to collaboration with the Jewish Queer community is fantastic.

The economy sucks! Good news! We’re hiring!

idealistlogo-100x100

We are very pleased to announce that the organization that sponsors the 2wice Blessed Project is hiring a new Development Director! That’s right! JQ International, an LGBTQ Jewish organization based out of Los Angeles was lucky enough to receive special funding for the Jewish Federation of Greater Los Angeles to hire a candidate that can bring the Jewish Queer community of Los Angeles to the next level. This is a HUGE investment by the JFed and we are extremely honored to be one of their initial seed money recipients (read more here). Some of the work this person will be responsible for will make a big impact on the 2wice Blessed Project, so we need to get someone who is passionate, experienced, and willing to work! If you are that person or know someone who is, please apply!

Sacred Saucy event with East Side Jews

ESJ SacredSaucy

We are very excited to announce an exciting event collaboration with a super-hip, super-inclusive, and all-around awesome organization, the East Side Jews in Silverlake, CA! They fancy themselves an “irreverent, upstart, non-denominational collective of Jews living in Los Angeles’s East Side” and have been getting a huge amount of publicity for their innovative approach to creating Jewish community. We’re honored that they asked us to participate in their events and hope you’ll join us this weekend to witness the magic of this collaboration.

Featured Article in “Mako”

In the middle of June 2012, our project founder Janelle K. Eagle was lucky enough to travel to Jerusalem, Israel to participate in the ROI Summit. There, she interacted with some of the most influential and inspiring young Jewish leaders from around the world. For five days, they connected and created and brainstormed how to build thriving Jewish communities, build alliances, and make a positive impact on the world. While there, the local press took notice and chose to feature Janelle in an article in the popular publication “Mako” online.

Pinkwashing in Seattle

wider bridge7

We were disheartened to hear that our friends from “A Wider Bridge” experienced a big setback last week when their tour of LGBTQ Israeli’s was protested and cancelled in Seattle, WA. The media surrounding the discussion was minimal at best, and we think that you should know about this story. Please check out their press release:
